MLUC conducts free tuition fee orientation

The Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-Mid La Union Campus headed by Dr. Paulito C. Nisperos, MLUC Chancellor, conducted a two-day orientation and consultation on free tuition fee in accordance with the joint memorandum of the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Budget and Management for State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), June 27 and 28 at the Campus Covered Court.

Mrs. Angelita S. Domondon, Scholarship Coordinator of the campus, discussed the guidelines on how to apply the said program.

She explained that all students of the campus can avail the program as long as they are ‘academically able’ and are not second coursers. Mrs. Domondon reiterated that the requirements to be submitted should be applicable according to the income of the family. For instance, if the family is a Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiary, the student should submit a true copy of their Panunumpa/ID. However, if they are not 4P beneficiaries but categorized as indigent, they should secure a true copy of Certificate of Tax Exemption from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). If the family is an income earner, they should submit a true copy of their latest Income Tax Return.

Moreover, Mrs. Domondon highlighted the preregistration period from July 3 to July 14 only. During this timeline, the students should be able to accomplish the following requirements: grade slip from the respective program chairpersons, the pre-registration form distributed during the orientation and the requirement from the 4Ps or BIR. These documents will be submitted to their respective guidance counselors. However, students who will not avail of the said program, should sign a waiver and pay the required tuition fee.

Also, an open forum was conducted where Atty. Benjamin P. Sapitula, DMMMSU President, Chancellor Nisperos, and Mrs. Domondon answered the queries and concerns of the parents, guardians and students who attended the said orientation.

Here were some of the frequently asked questions during the open forum:

    • What if the parent/guardian of the student is an OFW?

They should provide a true copy of Certificate of Tax Exemption from the BIR.

    • Will the scholarship of the students from the LGU be removed?

All students of DMMMSU-MLUC are covered of this program and if they have existing scholarship grants, from Local Government Unit for instance, the campus would notify them that if possible they convert the grant to other allowances.

    • I’m a self-supporting student, how can I avail the program?

Students who are self-supporting must get a copy of Certification of Indigency from their respective barangays and may proceed to BIR for the Certificate of Tax Exemption.

The Free tuition Fee program of the government is only effective for the school year 2017-2018.
